Thanking someone is a great way to acknowledge that they’re important to you. How do you feel when someone thanks you? You can give thanks to people who are helping you build your business, to your current/past clients, to the people you rely on. Thank someone for great service or for making your day.

Congratulations is another terrific greeting. How great is it to know that someone is keeping up with your success? Congratulations are due for an award or other recognition, for landing a nice piece of business, for being published or interviewed, for a job promotion or for a new job. You can also congratulate people for things in their personal lives, a wedding, a baby, a marathon.

Experts agree that hand-written notes are the best way to make your message personal. Keep a supply of stationary handy so you can write the note as soon as you have something to say. If you find yourself missing opportunities because you’re waiting to create the note- go ahead and send an email or make a call.

Acknowledgement and recognition are great ways to stay in touch and be sure your contacts know how important they are to you.

Right now: buy stationary or note cards, aim to send at least one note next week. Look for opportunities, check publications, stay current with what’s happening in your community. Set a target for yourself, a number of notes a month. When you look for reasons to send a note- they will show up.
